Dr. Wasserman is right!!! This HAS CHANGED our LIVES!!! Our son, Nate, completed the peanut desensitization on Oct 21st, 2010. He was diagnosed as anaphylactic to peanuts at age 3. He is 11 1/2 now. After 8 1/2 years of avoidance and fear, we have NO more fear!
But making that dramatic 180 degree change from total avoidance to ingesting peanut was not easy. We had to change our perspective.... This was not "rolling the dice" and hoping Nate did not have an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts. Instead, the program was a way of training his body to appropriately respond to peanuts as a non-dangerous food! We explained it to Nate using the analogy of a marathon. We would never ask him to run 24 miles on day one. But by starting out very very slowly, he would eventually be able to finish the race... with perseverance and training.
And we are so very proud of Nate for completing this leg of the race with such courage!
Alexander.... We know you can do it too! We are praying for you!
